Two masters…

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

(Luke 16:13)

I want my children to understand the difference between having money and serving money. To serve money is to make it your master, which means that every decision will be dictated either by what it will cost or what there is to gain. To serve money is to make it your idol, to give it your heart and to see riches as the answer to every problem. A disciple must always be reevaluating his life in regard to who truly is the master. This truth needs to be proclaimed to my church: you cannot serve both God and money. There are many who would say that they believe in me, but their master determines who they truly believe in. There are many who would say that they are serving me in ministry, but if their time is spent in accumulating wealth (even in the church) then they are actually trying to serve two masters, which is to have no master at all. I want to bless my children and even prosper them, but I can only do that safely if they are willing to serve me and no other.
