The stone the builders rejected…

Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? “Therefore, I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.” (Matthew 21: 42-44)

It’s important to understand that Jesus did not say the builders rejected that stone and then changed their mind and made it the cornerstone … they reject it to this day. The building modeled after that cornerstone is completely different from what the builders envisioned. Jesus had no place in the religious structures of his day and in this day, he is still the rejected cornerstone. He is more than just a capstone that aligns the dimensions of the structure, he is an altar stone upon which one must fall and be broken. Only in brokenness can my church be built up and only with Jesus as that central cornerstone will my church be in his image. I am beginning to speak to the hearts of the “builders” that they must repent of what they have built and go back, in brokenness, to the stone that was rejected.
