The new way of the Spirit…

“So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.” (Romans 7:4-6)

This is what I want to teach my children: how to serve in the new way of the Spirit, not in the old way of the written code. It’s not that the old way is wrong, it is simply not enough to accomplish what I intend: that real fruit be born in my children. I want you to learn the new way of the Spirit:

— The Way of the Spirit is the way of following a guide, not following the rules. He came to guide you into all truth, not give you a list of what is true.

— The Way of the Spirit is the way making decisions based on what I am saying, for my Spirit will make known all that I have spoken.

— The Way of the Spirit is the way of dependency, choosing not to trust in yourself; bringing to the alter the good things as well as the bad.

— The Way of the Spirit is the way of love. Allowing mercy to triumph over judgment; choosing to value a person for who he is, not what he has done.

— The Way of the Spirit is the way of sonship, making the transition from knowing me as Lord to knowing me as Father.

I am calling my church to die to what once bound you: religious traditions and the written code that has developed in your denominations … for you belong to another! Come and be fully mine, come and learn to live in the new way of my Spirit. I am not asking you to compose a new written code, but to live in the freedom and power and fruitfulness of my Holy Spirit.
