The Lamb

And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:9-10)

It’s important to remember that it was the lamb, not the lion, who was worthy to take the scroll and open its seals. A lamb that looked as if it had been slain. In my kingdom, this is what authority looks like: humility and sacrifice. That lamb has purchased you from your own nation and your own people in order to bring you into his kingdom as a priest who will serve with that same authority, the authority of the Lamb. This is what you are becoming; this is what it means to be transformed into the image of Jesus. Keep the twin goals of humility and sacrifice before you; see them not as a means to something else, but as the finish line that I have set before you and every person who has chosen to be a follower of Jesus.
