The first lesson taught by Jesus…

And He said to them, how is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business? (Luke 2:49 AMPC)

Just as this was the first recorded words of Jesus, this truth must be first in the hearts and understanding of every son and daughter: it is absolutely necessary that you 1. Be in my house, and 2. Be occupied with my business. To be in my house is not to be in a particular building, but to see my house in two different ways: you are my house, my holy temple, whom I want to fill every day, but you and your brothers and sisters also are my house, living stones that I have joined together in Jesus. To be occupied with my business requires that you know what my business is. It is far more than just to meet your needs or make you happy (although it is that) but greater still is my business of building the kingdom of God through individual lives. There must always be a balance between these two duties, but they also must always have the highest value in the daily life of my children. This was the first lesson that Jesus illustrated, and it is also the first requirment for those who would look like Jesus.
